What Can Veneers Do for Me?

Tweezers picking up a veneer

Made of wafer-thin dental porcelain, veneers simply fit over your existing teeth like a beautiful sheath, instantly transforming imperfections. There’s no need to wear braces for years to straighten them, or undergo separate procedures to correct misshaped, stained teeth.

Veneers fix a host of problems in the teeth that show when you smile.

  • Cracked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Stained teeth that haven’t responded to professional teeth whitening treatments
  • Gapped or slightly misaligned teeth
  • Oddly shaped teeth (pointy teeth, or those that appear stubby or too short)

Because dental veneers are reserved for improving aesthetic issues, they’re not effective in the repair of decayed teeth, or those that don’t function properly. For these issues, a dental crown may be the best route for repair. Dr. Morgan will thoroughly discuss your options with you to help you determine which is best for you and your smile.

Candidates for Veneers

If you’re wondering whether or not you’re a good candidate for veneers, chances are good that the answer is a resounding yes! Many adult patients can benefit from veneers. When you schedule your cosmetic dentistry consultation, we’ll check to make sure that your gums and teeth are in good health -- free from gum disease and tooth decay -- before proceeding. Even if you do have spots of decay or infection, we can provide restorative dentistry and other treatments to renew your smile health and allow you to receive the cosmetic dentistry treatments you desire.

What to Expect with Dental Veneers

When you decide dental veneers are the ideal treatment for your smile, Dr. Morgan will help you choose the style of veneers that best suits the look you desire. Your veneers will be custom-designed taking into account your unique facial features and smile attributes.

To prepare your teeth to receive the new devices, Dr. Morgan will buff a small amount of enamel from your teeth to make room. She’ll then take a series of impressions and photos to be sent to the lab that will create your veneers. You’ll wear temporary devices while your new veneers are prepared.

Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Morgan will check them to make sure they look, fit, and feel just like they should. She’ll then bond them securely to your teeth. The whole process takes two to three visits, and you’ll walk out of our Virginia Beach dental office with a brand-new smile!
